While studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, his attention was captured by Auguste Mambour alone. Over time, he moved away from this and became the undisputed master of poetic realism in Belgium. He developed his own style and travelled a singular, innovative path.

During what he considers to be his most creative period, 2014–2018, Musin depicts the Mona Lisa as a witness to contemporary times.

These four years of intense fighting were his most prolific and saw him occasionally tip his hat to the boldest and wildest – Pollock, Soulages, Duchamp, Fontana – and, in particular, show his admiration for Picasso, Braque, Rothko, Magritte and Brueghel, who he associated with the Mona Lisa in a startling level of complicity (Les chasseurs dans la neige, or Hunters in the snow).

Musin is always searching and, even at eighty-one years of age, says that his battle with painting is not yet over, though he has moved away from the canvas in favour of the third dimension.

These new plastic pieces, as well as a collection of his work, can be discovered during the retrospective in his honour at Musée de La Boverie.
