The Louvre, a partner

The Musée du Louvre is committed to providing artistic advice to La Boverie.

It will assist the City of Liège in programming three exhibitions of international scope (one per year from 2016 to 2018) and in supervising the scenographic concept of the permanent and temporary collections for the first year.

The theme of the inaugural exhibition, "En Plein air", underlines the museum's openness to its park: the Boverie peninsula has played for the people of Liège the role that the banks of the Seine played for Parisians at the turn of the twentieth century.

"En Plein Air" presents around one hundred works by renowned artists such as Corot, Vernet, Boudin, Monet, Evenepoel, Pissarro, Cézanne, Picasso, Bonnard and Renoir. These works come from the collections of La Boverie, the Louvre Museum and prestigious Belgian and foreign museums.

In 2017, the journey to Italy could be the theme of the second exhibition conceived by the teams of the two museums.

The origins of the collaboration between the two institutions lie in the scientific and cultural ties that have united the Louvre and the museums of the City of Liège for many years, in particular between Vincent Pomarède, General Curator of Heritage and Director of Mediation and Cultural Programming at the Louvre and the teams of the City of Liège.

For the Louvre, the aim is to pursue its policy of international cooperation, in particular with local authorities or institutions that enable it to get closer to its audiences.

Since its opening in December 2012, the Louvre-Lens museum has counted many Belgian nationals among its most loyal visitors, making it the leading foreign nationality in terms of attendance.

At the same time, the City of Liège is currently engaged in an ambitious project to promote its heritage.

The partnership is led by the City of Liège's museum and culture-tourism department and, within the Louvre Museum, by the Louvre Conseil service, which is dedicated to promoting and transmitting the museum's know-how to its external partners.
