Discover the collections portal of the Museums of the City of Liège

In addition to being free and accessible to all, the portal's main strength is that it provides Internet users with up-to-date resources on the museum collections and their documentation, as well as on the heritage collections (the Ulysse Capitaine library, the Centre Littérature jeunesse and the Centre de documentation et de recherche des musées). This interface means that searches can now be carried out on a single portal for all data.

Free search navigation on a single interface

The collections portal was born of the desire to present the collections of the City of Liège's museums and heritage collections on a single site. The database currently contains more than 137,000 records on works of art, major items, works and reference documents, etc.

The development of the collections portal for the Museums of the City of Liège is the result of technical collaboration between the Department of Culture and the Information Systems Department of the City of Liège.
Check back regularly, as it is constantly being updated!

Simple or advanced searches

The collections portal allows either a simple search or a more advanced search using multiple filters. Searches can be carried out by cross-referencing various requests: type of document (work, monograph, poster, postcard, etc.), place, year of publication, author, artist, title, name of work, name of exhibition, etc. The results of these searches are displayed in the form of notes, with the option of 'bouncing' from one work to another according to theme, character represented, artist or place of creation or discovery.

Digitised information on the Museums' collections

The Museums of the City of Liège are a municipal entity bringing together several museums: The Grand Curtius, La Boverie (Fine Arts Museum), the Musée du Luminaire and the Musée Grétry.

The results of the museum research present the works and objects on display in the museums' permanent collections.

At present, data on works from the Musée Grétry and the Musée du Luminaire are not included in the City of Liège's Cultural Portal.

The Grand Curtius houses the collections of the Arms, Archaeology, Decorative Arts, Religious Art, Mosan Art and Glass departments.

The City of Liège's Fine Arts collections, on display at La Boverie, bear witness to the modernity of art in all periods, from the Renaissance to the present day. They have been classified into several groups, divided into the various disciplines of painting, sculpture and drawing. These classifications concern the collections of the former Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Prints and Drawings Department and the former Museum of Walloon Art.

Digitised information on the collections of the Fonds patrimoniaux

The Fonds patrimoniaux include the Bibliothèque Ulysse Capitaine, dedicated to works of interest in Liège; the Centre de littérature jeunesse et graphique, which brings together works specific to these types of literature; the Centre de documentation et de recherche des musées, which includes the printed documents, manuscripts and paper archives of the Grand Curtius and the Beaux-Arts; and the library of the Institut archéologique liégeois.

This vast literary, artistic and scientific heritage, rich in thousands of documents, is now accessible to as many people as possible via this new portal. All these documents can also be consulted at the Fonds patrimoniaux (see conditions on the website).
